Grants up to $1,000 for clinical placements in a NSW public health facility are available to NSW students undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery degree. Grants are to assist with accommodation and travel associated with your clinical placement. Grants will be awarded based on the distance between the GPO of your 'home' University campus and the GPO of the clinical placement.

Grants are limited to one applicant per calendar year.
Applications for clinical placement grants are open for 2 periods per calendar year:
25th February 2019 to 3rd May 2019
29th July 2019 to 15th November 2019
Applications must be submitted online. Applications received by any other means (eg. post or email) will not be processed.
Applications including all required documents must be received by midnight on the closing date. Late applications will not be considered.
All applicants will be notified via email of the outcome of their application approximately four weeks after the relevant closing date.
Am I eligible to apply?
You must be an undergraduate student enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing or a Bachelor of Midwifery degree undertaking a clinical placement in a public health facility in NSW
You must be a resident of NSW
You must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia
If you are in receipt of a Rural Undergraduate scholarship from NSW Health in 2019, you are not eligible for a clinical placement grant
You must be willing to participate in a evaluation or telephone survey about the NSW nursing and midwifery scholarship fund
Each applicant is required to upload the following document during the online application:
written confirmation from your university nursing coordinator of your placement location, dates, duration, and
whether the placement is undertaken in either semester 1 or semester 2 this year, on university letterhead
Hand-written applications will not be accepted and applications not online will be deemed unsuccessful.
The awarding of grants is determined by a selection panel. Decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
When will I know if my application is successful?
Applicants will be notified by email about the outcome of their application by the end of June this year for funding period 1 applications, and by the end of December this year for funding period 2 applications. Please note that unexpected delays can occur.
What happens next?
If successful, you will be notified by email of the amount that you will receive via electronic funds transfer (EFT).
If successful, how much money will I receive?
Grants to assist with accommodation and travel associated with your clinical placement will be awarded based on the distance between the GPO of your 'home' University campus and the GPO of the clinical placement.
When will I receive my grant payment?
It may take up to five weeks to process payments into your nominated bank account. Please note however that unexpected delays sometimes occur.
Payments cannot be made into credit card accounts.
What can I use my grant funding for?
Grant funding is provided to assist students with travel and accommodation costs directly associated with clinical placements undertaken as part of their Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery degree. The Health Education and Training Institute does not require receipts, however these should be retained by the applicant for taxation purposes.
What if I do not undertake the clinical placement?
Successful applicants who do not undertake the clinical placement must notify the Health Education and Training Institute in writing within seven days. Full repayment of grant funding will be required.

No withholding tax has been deducted. Please seek independent taxation advice on implications.
Fringe benefits tax (FBT) advice
An FBT issue arises with employees in the public health system who receive funding from the Health Education and Training Institute.
Please seek independant advice regarding your personal circumstances where necessary.
