USAID Building Resilience amongst Families affected with HIV activity

Goal: To improve health and wellbeing, socioeconomic, and educational outcomes of vulnerable children, adolescents, and families of Haitian migrants and their descendents in the Dominican Republic (DR) who have been affected by HIV, thereby helping the DR achieve epidemic control and a sustained reduction in HIV transmission. This activity will reduce barriers to HIV prevention and service delivery for Haitian migrants and descendants and their children affected by HIV by improving their health and wellbeing. Through comprehensive case management to eligible clients and their family members, the activity will provide child-centered, family-based services that address the health, education, socioeconomic, and safety needs among the affected households to strengthen adherence to treatment and prevent new HIV infection. The case management model includes identification of the eligible child/family, enrollment, assessment of needs, and development, implementation, and monitoring of a case plan until the household graduates from support. Target Population This activity will target households with people living with HIV (PLHIV) who are Haitian migrants and Dominicans of Haitian descent residing in the DR (also known as priority populations or PPs for the purposes of this activity). This includes the following target subpopulations: 1) children, adolescents, and caregivers living with HIV; 2) HIV-exposed infants; and 3) HIV negative family members of HIV positive caregivers or siblings. The targeted priority population may incorporate other highly vulnerable populations with concurrence from USAID/DR and in line with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)/DR priorities.
