Job Description

Your responsibilities

As a member of a team responsible for the vacuum systems of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider, a project that will upgrade the performance of the world's most powerful accelerator, your role will involve participating in acceptance tests of vacuum equipment. These activities will take place within dedicated workshops, laboratories, and the LHC tunnel area. You will collaborate closely with students, trainees, experienced technicians, and engineers in a highly motivating and international environment.

Your primary responsibilities will include the following tasks:

- Measurement of pressures in the ultra-high-vacuum range.
- Identify and quantify residual gas in vacuum systems by mass spectrometers, including detecting organic contaminants.
- Mechanical assembly of vacuum components and helium leak detection of sub-assembly or fully assembled accelerator vacuum equipment.
- Generating appropriate documentation for vacuum equipment.
- Participating in the logistics and overseeing the procurement process for vacuum components.
- Participating in interventions on vacuum equipment in the LHC tunnel, including mechanical installation, helium leak detection, in-situ heating, and activation of non-evaporable getter coatings.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success.
