RWI − Leibniz Institute for Economic Research is an independent, non-profit research institution headquartered in Essen, Germany. The institute is a leading center for scientific research and evidence-based policy advice in Germany. RWI’s Policy Lab Climate Change, Development and Migration conducts cutting-edge research in low and middle-income countries and on various meta-scientific topics. The Policy Labs cooperates closely with African governments, international organizations and initiatives such as World Bank, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), GIZ, and the Institute for Replication. The unifying objective is to increase the effectiveness of policies in these fields.

The Economic Policy Lab "Climate Change, Development and Migration" at the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research invites applications for 

1 Visiting Fellowship (3 months)

for early career researchers from low- and middle-income countries.

The fellowship is for a period of three month. The fellowship includes a monthly stipend and a travel grant. Fellows are expected to relocate to Essen for the period of the fellowship. 

Candidates from low- and middle-income countries according to the OECD DAC list of ODA recipients are eligible to apply. Candidates are further required to hold a Master’s degree in development economics (or related field). The fellowship is open to doctoral students that are nearing the end of their PhD as well as post-doctoral candidates. Doctoral researchers have to be enrolled in a PhD program. Post-doctoral candidates, should have completed their PhD within the past two years. The ideal candidate already has at least two academic research papers in draft.

1.    Cover letter addressing research plans for the period of the visiting fellowship including your topical link to members of the Policy Lab and policy relevance of your work 
2.    CV with contact details of at least two academic references
3.    Two publication or working papers that are representative for your work

Successful applicants should
•    be interested in topics of development economics as well as climate change, migration and population policies
•    have a very good command of English and good writing skills; German is not required

The position starts upon the earliest convenience of the successful candidate and is limited to three months.
