The purpose of this NOFO is to elucidate the contribution of sleep deficiency and circadian disruption to metabolic and cardiovascular pathobiology, disease trajectory, and treatment response in individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The RFA will support clinically relevant, mechanism focused research on the interface between sleep, circadian rhythms biology, T1D and cardiovascular disease. Multi-disciplinary teams bridging sleep/circadian, diabetes, and cardiovascular research are encouraged. Proposed research should be relevant to the ultimate goal of applying sleep and circadian strategies to improve treatment and outcomes in individuals with T1D, and to mitigate related cardiovascular complications. Observational studies, epidemiology, efficacy trials and basic animal research will not be responsive to this NOFO.
