The close date above is the date for the Step-1 proposal submission. See the solicitation for the Step-2 due date. Step-2 proposals cannot be submitted if a Step-1 proposal was not submitted. Support for Planetary Sample Science (SPSS) Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN) and Questions and Answers (Q&A) Released CAN/Q&A Release Date: May 11, 2023 Number: NNH23ZDA017C Step-1 Proposals Due: June 12, 2023 Step-2 Proposals Due: July 24, 2023 Number: NNH23ZDA017C The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) has released a Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN) entitled “Support for Planetary Sample Science (SPSS)”. The NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System (NSPIRES) is the official NASA source for the full text of the CAN; therefore, please visit: https://nspires.nasaprs.com/, choose “Solicitations” at the top of the page, and on the next page in the search box, input the number “NNH23ZDA017C.” In the event of any lapse in NASA operations, please visit NSPIRES for further information. The final SPSS CAN invites the submission of proposals to support members of the planetary science community to conduct science activities that use NASA’s extraterrestrial samples for a public purpose. Scientific studies of such samples have proven valuable for informing our understanding of the solar system. NASA’s Planetary Science Division (PSD) has long provided support for community research with these samples. Through this CAN, NASA seeks to continue to provide this support to enable community research. Section A of the CAN provides a description of the program. Section B provides Federal Award Information. Section C describes eligibility criteria. Section D describes the process for submission, review, selection, and award for this funding announcement. Prospective investigators from most categories of U.S. organizations or institutions are welcome to respond. Categories of eligible organizations include, but are not limited to, educational, industrial, and not-for-profit organizations, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), and University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs). Non-U.S. organizations may participate on a no-exchange-of-funds basis. The CAN allows NASA Centers and JPL to participate only with an eligible non-Federal entity. NASA Centers or JPL may not serve as the lead institution. The public comment on the SPSS draft CAN has been summarized in a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document hosted on the NSPIRES landing page for the CAN. PSD aggregated similar comments and provides a shared response. Any additional questions or requests for clarification regarding the SPSS CAN should be emailed to Stephen.A.Rinehart@nasa.gov. Anonymity of persons/institutions who submit questions/comments will be preserved. If of general interest, responses to new questions may added to the Q&A document on the NSPIRES landing page. Please check the NSPIRES page for any such updates well prior to the Step-1 and Step-2 proposal due dates.
