OJP is committed to advancing work that promotes civil rights and racial equity, increases access to justice, supports crime victims and individuals impacted by the justice system, strengthens community safety, protects the public from crime and evolving threats, and builds trust between law enforcement and the community. Awards made under the SMART Fellowship Program will fund fellowships for a period of 12 months. The fellows will work closely with SMART Office staff and will work onsite periodically in the SMART Office in Washington, D.C. The purpose of these fellowships is to provide guidance to jurisdictions on how to either obtain or maintain substantial implementation of SORNA and improve management of those convicted of sexual offenses through research and practice, with the aim of reducing sexual violence. Fellows will collaborate with the SMART Office and DOJ staff to provide critical outreach, data, research, and subject matter expertise to inform the development of new strategies and programs for practitioners in the field as well as assist the SMART Office in its mission.
