The PhD in Economics of the Tuscan Universities (joint programme of the Universities of Florence, Pisa and Siena) is a three-year study and research programme for students aiming to pursue a career as economists in academia, public institutions, international organizations, or the private sector.

Established in the 1980s, the programme has a long and well-established tradition. It is characterized by a lively doctoral community that is well integrated into the academic community of the participating departments, an openness to a plurality of perspectives within economics, attention to the historical dimension of the economy and economic analysis, and dialogue with other disciplines.

The programme offers:

  • 4 + 4 fully funded PhD positions
  • Additional funding for research periods abroad
  • Access to dedicated spaces and facilities at the Department of Economics and Statistics of the University of Siena
  • First year of advanced courses (at the University of Siena)

Important Dates: 

First call (4 positions/scholarships):

• Application deadline: June 29, 2026, at 2 pm
• Online interviews: July 21, 2026, from 10am
• Results announced: by the end of July

Second call (4 positions/scholarships funded by Regione Toscana):

• Application deadline:  July 24, 2026, at 2 pm
• Online interviews: September 2, 2026, from 10am
• Results announced: by the first half of September

Programme starts on November 1, 2026
