Job Description
Your responsibilities
As a Survey Engineer in the Experiment Survey and alignment (ESA) section, you will:
- Perform the alignment of various components in experimental setups and area, ensure the maintenance of the related survey infrastructure and geodetic networks;
- Perform metrology measurements at all stages for the physics detectors, using laser trackers, total stations or photogrammetry, including the preparation, the execution, and the data analysis;
- Perform and compute “as built” measurements using the laser scanner technology;
- Prepare the documentation related to these tasks
- Perform the calibration, checking and testing of the survey instrumentation and accessories.
Your profile
Skills
- Knowledge and application of high-precision survey methods and tools, laser tracker, total stations, photogrammetry.
- Experience using standard compensation software: theories, concepts and algorithms related to the least square adjustment
- Laser scanning: basic use of instruments and software
- Working in teams: working well in groups and readily fitting into a team; participating fully and taking an active role in team activities
- Demonstrating Flexibility: Adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements. Actively participating in the implementation of new processes and technologies
- Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Survey Engineer (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
Additional Information
Job closing date: 27/01/2025 at 23:59h (midnight) CET.
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week
Target start date: 01-March-2025
This position involves:
- Work in Radiation Areas.
- Interventions in underground installations.
- A valid driving licence.
- Exposure to ionizing radiation and classified as category A.
- Use of certain mobile work equipment or equipment used for lifting loads (lifting equipment, bridge cranes, aerial work platforms, etc.) requiring a driving authorization.
- Operations on electrical installations or in their vicinity (over 1000 Volt AC or 1500 Volt DC) requiring a specific authorization.
- Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.
Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
