Researcher (f/m/d) with the Deputy Director and the research unit BiT "Occupations in the Transformation" at the IAB

The PostDoc will work with the Deputy Director of the IAB and is located in the research group "Occupations in the Transformation" (BiT). This group focuses intensively on the impact of artificial intelligence on employment, wages, occupations and labour market demands. The research group is guided by three core principles: It is labour market focused, empirically driven and incorporates diverse theoretical perspectives. For example, based on the "task-based approach" and the current debates on ecological and digital transformation, we analyse how job patterns have changed and could change in the labour market. We use administrative data, but also survey data specifically designed to address these questions, as well as data that can be extracted from job advertisements with the help of machine learning. 

Tasks and activities

-    Conduct labour market research using state-of-the-art microeconometric and machine learning methods (including natural language processing)
-    Plan and implement complex projects, concepts, models and methods 
-    Oversee and monitor research-relevant processes
-    Analyse and publish research findings, focusing particularly on the impact of artificial intelligence on employment, wages, occupations and labour market requirements
-    Initiate and manage (sub-)projects effectively

Prerequisites

-    University degree; PhD or comparable qualification
-    Preferred specialisations: Economics or Social Sciences
-    Relevant work experience or comparable profile
-    In-depth knowledge in a relevant subject area, e.g. labour market theory, firms and employment, ecological and digital transformation of the labour market, machine learning methods
-    In-depth knowledge of empirical research methods in economics and social sciences
-    Strong knowledge of statistical analysis methods
-    Good knowledge of project management
-    Good knowledge of presentation techniques
-    Good knowledge of relevant MS Office applications, statistical software (Stata, R), experience in working with Python and machine learning methods an advantage
-    English (knowledge level B2 according to CEFR)
-    Speaking German is advantageous but not required

Our offer

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work directly with the Deputy Director and the team of the research unit "Occupations in the Transformation".
The position can be filled on a full-time or part-time basis, initially for a limited period until 31 December 2027. It is likely that the contract will be extended.
The advertised position provides the opportunity to work in an experienced, internationally operating and highly motivated team across disciplinary and departmental boundaries.
We also welcome candidates who are at an advanced stage of their doctoral studies.
We are happy to support you in your further academic qualification (e.g. habilitation).

Remuneration is in accordance with the statutory salary scale of the Federal Employment Agency and the associated benefits. The remuneration corresponds at least to TE II, Level 1 (currently approx. 4.700 € gross income for a full-time position).
With a completed doctorate or with at least two peer-reviewed publications (with two co-authored publications corresponding to one single authored publication), remuneration amounts at least to TE I, Level 1 (currently 5.200 € gross income for a full-time position).

In addition to the fixed monthly salary, other salary components may be paid, e.g. an annual bonus. In addition, we offer a company pension through the Versorgungsanstalt des Bundes und der Länder (VBL - Pension Institution of the Federal and State Governments) and the possibility of deferred compensation after a certain period of employment.

Part-time work is possible. It is possible to work part of the working time from home. The proportion of working time spent at the IAB is normally 40 per cent. However, this can be agreed individually and in blocks.
