The professorship for Microeconomics at Freie Universität Berlin is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in microeconomic theory. While the ideal candidate's research focus will be in theory, we also welcome applicants specializing in applied microeconomics or experimental economics, provided they demonstrate a strong commitment to engaging with theoretical research. As the professorship emphasizes theory in both research and teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in microeconomic theory. The research areas at the professorship include Political Economy, Organizational Economics and Information Economics.

Working Environment:
The professorship at FU Berlin offers a collegial and theory-focused research environment. The postdoctoral researcher will be part of a vibrant academic community, where collaboration with the Berlin School of Economics (BSOE) plays a central role. As such, participation in the BSOE's activities - such as theory seminars, a reading group, and internal seminars - is expected, fostering an engaging and research-driven atmosphere.
We are looking for an ambitious early-career researcher who will not only strengthen our team but also contribute to the broader BSOE community. The role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a lively academic network centered around microeconomic theory and its applications.

Job description:

  • Research: Conduct research in microeconomics, preferably in theory with a focus on Political Economy, Organizational Economics, and Information Economics. Applications in applied microeconomics and experimental economics are also welcome.
  • Teaching: Teach microeconomic theory at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Supervision: Supervise Bachelor and Master theses and mentor PhD candidates
  • Funding: Apply for and manage externally funded research projects
  • Conferences: Present research results at international conferences.
  • Community Engagement: Actively participate in microeconomic groups at FU Berlin and the Berlin School of Economics.
  • Career Development: The position provides the opportunity for the postdoctoral fellow to gain further academic qualifications.

This role is ideal for an ambitious early-career researcher looking to contribute to a thriving academic community while advancing their own academic trajectory.

Requirements:
Completed scientific university degree and successfully completed PhD in the field of microeconomics.

Desirable:

  • Research Skills: Proven research capabilities and strong potential, demonstrated by an excellent dissertation in the field of microeconomics.
  • Expertise: Research and teaching experience in microeconomics, ideally with a focus on Political Economy, Organizational Economics, or Information Economics.
  • Publication Record: Experience with academic publications in internationally renowned academic journals.
  • Funding Acquisition: (Initial) experience in obtaining external research funding.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities, commitment, and flexibility.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English (spoken and written).
  • Personal Attributes: Ambitious, reliable, diligent, able to work independently, and a friendly team player.

Application materials include CV, jobmarket paper, three letters of reference, research statement (optional), teaching statement (optional), diversity statement (optional).
