  • Based at our Melbourne, Burwood Campus. Set in leafy green surrounds, the campus is accessible to Melbourne's eastern transport hubs and is a 30-minute drive from the CBD.

As the Professor of Economics, you will lead major, highly productive, high-quality, research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs. You will also lead teaching teams to design and develop courses and materials which influence teaching across Economics discipline or across multiple disciplines and provide our student an excellent learning experience. The Professor will also develop and lead academic or other collaborations that enable novel teaching, research or creative activities that are recognised nationally and ensure deep impact of academic activity in the field and community. In the duty, you will:

  • Demonstrate sustained and substantial national and international reputation as world leader based on extensive body of work recognized for quality, excellence and impact.
  • Lead teams and succeed in funding opportunities for research and creative activities, including applications for large-scale/strategic external competitive funding, funding for commercialization and translation activities and other funding, demonstrating sustained effort and success.
  • Lead teaching teams to develop innovation in curriculum design, courses and materials which influence teaching for the discipline in peer institutions or nationally, or across multiple disciplines. Lead review of units and courses across disciplines.
  • Lead the discovery and coordinated integration of innovative teaching practices at university level with recognition at national and deliver learner-centric, research-informed teaching practices across different levels / modes of delivery.
  • Enable and work collaboratively with teaching teams and the community across the sector to develop new practices and frameworks to improve student learning outcomes
  • Lead the development and significantly contribute to citizenship activities and effectiveness as champion at local and university level. Represent the university at significant academic, professional and civic forums.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Evidence of original, innovative and distinguished contribution to scholarship and teaching, research and research supervision
  • Demonstrated success as an eminent authority at the national and international level in research and scholarship through high quality publications, and exhibitions as relevant to the discipline.
  • Sustained success in obtaining competitive external research grants
  • Excellence in engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national and international standing of the discipline.
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues.
