As a Principal Coastal Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of coastal engineering on major Transformational Programmes that will enhance the UK's critical infrastructure. You’ll work on groundbreaking engineering projects both in the UK and internationally, shaping the landscapes that impact millions of lives.
The team specializes in all aspects of coastal engineering across various sectors, including Water, Aviation, Defence, Energy, and Urban Development. They work on the entire project lifecycle, from conceptual design through to delivery, providing both client-side support and construction phase leadership.
As the Principal Coastal Engineer, you will lead a team responsible for executing high-quality technical design work in compliance with industry standards and codes. You’ll be accountable for managing both the technical and operational aspects of coastal projects, ensuring that time and budget constraints are met while maintaining the highest design quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation and execution of coastal engineering designs to the highest standards.
- Develop detailed briefs, scopes of work, and contribute to bid proposals.
- Effectively manage project timeframes and budgets to meet critical milestones.
- Collaborate with UK and international teams to deliver integrated, innovative design solutions.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance standards throughout the design and execution phases.
About You:
- Chartered Civil Engineer with extensive experience in multidisciplinary design delivery.
- In-depth theoretical knowledge in ocean waves, tidal theory, extreme value statistics, nearshore processes, and sediment transport.
- Proven experience in designing coastal structures such as flood defences, sea walls, breakwaters, revetments, and beaches in line with standards like BS6349, EurOtop, and Rock Manual.
- Expertise in numerical modelling to simulate wave propagation, tidal flows, and hydrodynamics.
- Strong leadership and team management experience, with the ability to mentor junior engineers.
