Job Description
Your responsibilities
The High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project is one of CERNs top priority for the coming decade, aiming at an upgrade of the current LHC (Large Hadron Collider) machine to maintain scientific progress and exploit the full capacity of the flagship project of the particle accelerator community. By increasing its peak luminosity as of 2029 by a factor of five beyond its initial design value, it will allow collecting a ten times larger set of physics data than during the exploitation period of the nominal LHC.
To this aim, HL-LHC is exploring new beam configurations and novel technologies in the domain of superconductivity, radiofrequency, cryogenics, radiation tolerant materials, electronics, and remote handling (https://hilumilhc.web.cern.ch).
The HL-LHC project office coordinates the technical progress and the project baseline through the Technical Coordination Committee (TCC). The HL-LHC Integration team complements the work of the TCC by analyzing and validating in close conjunction with the accelerator coordination and engineering teams the compatibility of the individual HL-LHC components in terms of interfaces and installation sequence in the tunnel areas. the project team also includes a dedicated Procurement, Quality, and Risk office to ensure the installation and endorsement of a strict quality assurance throughout the project and the preparation of industrial contracts.
As part of the HL-LHC Procurement, Baseline Documentation, Quality and Risk Office, the successful candidate will support and guide the members of the project (CERN and external collaborators, including Contractors) on the fulfilment of the HL-LHC Quality plan.
More specifically, you will assume responsibilities within:
- Quality follow-up of the activities of Collaborations and Contractors during the production phase, together with the Work Package Engineers
- Definition of requirements and changes (Baseline Change Requests)
- Control of requirements (Deviations, Nonconformities)
- Traceability of requirements (Documentation and records)
- Continuous improvement (Corrective, preventive actions, and audits)
- Assets management
- Training on CERN Tools (EDMS, MTF, InforEAM, etc.)
- Procurement Plan of the Project and KPIs
- Risk register and monitoring
Your profile
Skills and/or knowledge
- Candidates must be able to work in teams, and be at ease with theoretical but also very practical work in order to be able to support the HL-LHC members on their daily duties
- Knowledge of quality processes and standards applicable to electro-mechanical production including procedures and measurements
- Experience with industrial contracts/collaborations follow-up from production and/or quality side, for electro-mechanical components, dealing with contractors and/or collaborations.
- Data analysis, preparation of KPIs and assessment
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office for project management purposes
- Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
