Your responsibilities
In this position, you will have the opportunity to join a joint collaborative team from the Technologies department and the Beam department. This will enable you work together with the Operation Crews of the accelerators as well as Equipment Experts.
AccTesting is the software framework used at CERN to perform the commissioning of the LHC superconducting magnets, electrical circuits and their protection equipments. It implements the automation, scheduling and systematization of the commissioning procedures. As the experiences with it were positive, the use of AccTesting will be expanded other accelerator systems and to the entire accelerator injection chain, spreading to all accelerators at CERN.
Your tasks will be:
- Extend the AccTesting framework to support all accelerator systems for automated test execution and analysis;
- Renovate the way the services are deployed to scale it to the entire accelerator complex;
- Define requirements with operators and equipment experts.
Your profile
Skills
- Very good knowledge of Java (11+) and its ecosystem;
- Experience with Spring Framework (e.g. IoC, Web) and Spring Boot;
- Experience with maintenance and evolution of existing software products, refactoring and testing;
- Experience using CI/CD for automated testing, validation and deployments (e.g. Gitlab);
- Experience with containerized software (e.g. Docker);
- Basic knowledge, or willingness to acquire, of Java Swing for occasional improvement of operational GUIs;
- Curious and quality-oriented mindset;
- Experience with gRPC is a strong asset
- Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Software Engineer (or a related field) and have either:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Additional Information

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
