Medical mistrust (MM) is associated with HIV disparities among Hispanic/Latino (H/L) gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (HLMSM) by preventing or delaying access to HIV services. Because its root causes in this priority group are unknown, understanding pathways that lead to MM would allow targeted interventions to address MM in this population. The purpose of this two-phase community-driven study is twofold: (1) to conduct formative research on MM drivers in HLMSM and identify existing interventions that build trust to improve access and utilization of HIV prevention and care services, and (2) to evaluate implementation of targeted multilevel interventions that build trust in health and HIV prevention services. This Notice of Fundign Opportuntiy is intended to fund three US jurisdictions, preferably prioritized in the Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative (Priority Jurisdictions: Phase I HIV.gov) with large H/L populations (30% or more based on 2020 US Census data), to capture variations in medical mistrust drivers among different H/L subgroups (e.g., Mexicans, Central Americans, Puerto Ricans, US Born, non-US born). Evidence generated will help address a driver (medical mistrust) of HIV disparities in support of the goals of Ending the HIV Epidemic in the United States (EHE), the National Strategic Plan, and other federal prevention planning efforts.
