Are you a highly motivated Mechanical, Aerospace, Nuclear or Logistic engineer eager to take on exciting challenges? Do you have a solid technical background, experience in mechanical design, and some project management or logistics expertise?. If so, we invite you to join our dynamic team responsible for the ISOLDE beam dump upgrade. You will work closely with the project leader and benefit from the support of our SY-STI-TCD experts.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the project leader by providing logistics workflow during procurement and production phases, as well as during the execution phase for dump and shielding installation (700 m³ of shielding to be installed);
  • Assist the project leader in the Project quality assurance to ensure project success. Produce quality control documents to ensure traceability of all components, drawings, REX, and test results, facilitating long-term knowledge transfer;
  • Follow-up 3D integration of the future dumps using CATIA (3D CAD), with the support of 3D integrator experts & mechanical designers. Ensure smooth future installation of the dumps, considering all constraints from support groups (handling, cooling, radiation protection, etc. Check all interfaces and consider future maintenance needs, failure recovery, and potential dump replacement;
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary support groups such as handling, civil engineering, cooling & ventilation, safety, radiation protection, etc., to prepare for the execution phase of the beam dump replacement project. Optimize the logistic flow of materials needed during dismantling and beam dump/shielding installation;
  • Support the project team in operational tests and REX activities by documenting and following up on action lists;
  • Work with technical groups and work package owners to write documents, resolve issues, and facilitate their progress to ensure timely installation and the quality of critical equipment;
  • Support the project leader and the appointed responsible in the establishment of technical documentation required to liaise with host state radiation protection authorities.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • A degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Nuclear Engineering
  • Experience on project management or logistics or volunteer to gain experience on these fields
  • Be autonomous in your work thanks to your curiosity and desire to learn and understand a very innovative environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Expertise of design in presence of radiation and risk of contamination is a plus.
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

This position requires:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 6212 and 6828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).

  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
