Aim
This master Economics trains students to apprehend contemporary economic problems theoretically as well as practically so that they can fully understand the environment in which businesses and administrations operate in and predict the stakes. This master’s degree includes a quantitative dimension, which is necessary in a society increasingly overwhelmed by the role of data.
Students
This master is addressed to students who wish to further develop their knowledge in quantitative economics with a view to professional insertion (Bac+5) or doctoral studies.
Structure and organization
The first year of the master’s degree comprises a core curriculum of 3 sequences spread on a 6-week period. The 6 remaining weeks are for the elective courses allowing the student to be initiated in new disciplines before making a choice of specialization for the second year, which has four tracks:
- Theoretical and empirical economics
- Economic policy analysis
- Econometrics, big data, statistics
- Quantitative finance and insurance
Academic content
Given the rapid evolution of needs in the labour market, this diploma will train professionals able to adapt to these changes. Such adaptability implies an inclusive comprehension of quantitative phenomena and requires deep technical knowledge in economics. The degree will allow the student to acquire in the first-year fundamental knowledge in theoretical economics and quantitative methods. Students get their field of specialization for the second year.
Skills
The first year aims at building comprehension of complex economic phenomena, strengthening the ability to write a dissertation or a report and to defend it orally. These skills may be strengthened (elective course) by an initiation to project management. The training has a double target: academic and professional. A solid academic training is necessary whatever the direction the students take to give them the analytical and thinking mind necessary to evolve favourably during their career. It constitutes the foundations on which the high-level teachings given to students rest if they want to enter the labour market after graduating. Similarly, the thorough teachings in economics and econometrics for those who want to pursue doctoral studies rest on a solid academic training.
