The purpose of the National Center for Newborn Screening System Excellence (NBS Excel) is to strengthen state NBS Propel grantees, state public health agencies, and the newborn screening system to improve capacity and coordination. This is accomplished by establishing and/or maintaining a system to track NBS quality indicators to assess and coordinate timely screening/follow-up/treatment, providing technical support and training on NBS and quality improvement, developing and piloting new quality indicators for long-term follow-up in collaboration with subject matter experts, and utilizing NBS repository data to identify barriers to achieving heath equity in NBS and promote equitable access to NBS services for all infants and families.
