Job Summary

Highly motivated Entry-Level Bridge Engineer for employment in the Mississauga office. AECOM’s Bridge Group is responsible for a wide variety of bridge and transportation related structures’ including highway overpasses, pedestrian bridges, bridge inspection, bridge maintenance, bridge load tests and railroad public projects reviews. Candidate should have excellent engineering and communication skills, and a desire to contribute to our bridge design team.

Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer:

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

  • Assist in design of transportation bridge engineering projects

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues

  • Preparing and checking design calculations for bridges and other transportation related structures

  • Drawing preparation, review and checking

  • Quantity calculations

  • Shop drawing review

  • Preparation of reports and specifications

  • Assisting in maintaining project documentation

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering or related field

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering

  • Previous intern/co-op work experience in bridge design

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Mathcad, MicroStation or AutoCAD software and be familiar with at least one structural analysis software package

  • Candidate should be detail oriented and should have strong skills in structural analysis, steel and concrete design; and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good time management skills, a strong work ethic, and a willing desire to learn

  • Interest in Transportation design project

  • Willingness to travel (if and when required)
