Yohan CASSUS
Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern
Job Description
Introduction
Are you an enthusiastic Superconducting Magnet Engineer interested in the development, manufacturing and operation of superconducting accelerator magnets? Come and join a great team pushing the limits of superconducting accelerator magnets, to shape the future of the largest accelerator in the world, take part!
The Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) group of the Technology Department (TE), has the mandate to design, construct, and measure the superconducting and normal conducting magnets for the CERN accelerator complex; integrate them in the CERN machines; design the related cryostats and perform the magnet quality control. The group also provides support to the operation of accelerators for matters related to magnets and other superconducting devices (ex. current leads).
The Large Magnet Facility Section (LMF) is responsible for the construction, maintenance and support of the accelerator’s superconducting magnets. Additionally, the TE-MSC-LMF section is responsible for defining, producing, and maintaining busbars, electrical connections, and interconnections. The section also manages the related storage and logistics, ensuring efficient operation and support for the LHC.
Functions
As Superconducting Magnet Engineer with sustained expertise in accelerator magnets you will:
- Take over the responsibility for the technical coordination of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) cryo-magnets, in particular in view of the Long Shutdown 3 and the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) upgrade, covering deinstallation, consolidation, installation activities, including related quality controls as well as addressing ad-hoc requests related to cryo-magnets and their spare components.
- Lead the development of low temperature superconducting magnet technologies, through the design and construction of specific magnets, with a focus on producing cost-effective, full-length accelerator prototypes for system integration and eventually to prepare for industrialization.
- Develop tools and solutions for low temperature superconducting magnets, in line with the experience developed for LHC and HL-LHC Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn magnets, especially for aspects related to coil fabrication and mechanical assembly.
