HSE University invites applications for a postdoctoral  position in the field of Banking / Household Finance at the Laboratory for Banking Studies. The position involves pursuing high-quality research on topics within the chosen field.

Appointments are made for one year. Postdoctoral fellows have high opportunity of renewal of the contract (no more than two times) in case of outstanding performance. 

Laboratory for Banking Studies (LaBS), Moscow, Russia, invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the field of Banking / Household Finance.

Requirements

The general requirements for the postdoctoral fellowship positions are the following:

●       Candidates must hold a recent PhD in the field of Banking, Finance, Economics or related areas which was awarded over the last 5 years or received before starting work at HSE in a relevant field by an internationally recognized university and has been assessed by external reviewers as having the potential to pursue research that is publishable in leading peer-reviewed journals;

●       Candidates should have a strong background in Economics, Econometrics, Banking, Finance or Household Finance, interest in applied empirical research in the mentioned fields accompanied by (a) clear research project proposal(s), as well as the ability to work in a team and on his/her own research projects. The applications without research project proposals will not be considered.

●       Fluent English is an obligatory condition as research and other activities are conducted in English. Knowledge of Russian is not required;

●       Relevant experience will be an asset although not required.

 The position involves:

●       working under the direct supervision of  Maria Semenova, Head of Laboratory for Banking Studies and Associate Professor at the School of Finance, HSE;

●       participants are encouraged to pursue the research on topic(s) within at least one of the following broad areas:

1.      The influence of institutional diversity and institutional and regulatory change on banks’ stability, profitability and other outcomes in a cross-country prospective;

2.      Banking in Russia;

3.      Households’ bank-related financial strategies: cross-country comparisons;

4.      The influence of new (non-cash) payment instruments on banking markets (combining survey data and bank financial statements); 

5.      Government involvement in banking markets: state ownership, political connections, etc;

6.      Islamic banking;

7.      Deposit Insurance.

●       submitting at least one working paper per year to the HSE working paper series in Financial Economics

●       submitting at least one research paper per year to the international peer-reviewed journal (Scopus Q1/Q2) in co-authorship with the members of the Laboratory for Banking Studies HSE;

●       participation in the events of the Laboratory for Banking Studies and other contribution to the Lab’s development;

●       public presentations of candidate’s own research to the academic community;

●       some teaching is encouraged.

Conditions

Appointments are made for one year. Postdoctoral fellows have high opportunity of renewal of the contract (no more than two times) in case of outstanding performance.

The Laboratory for Banking Studies offers access to its databases covering Russian banks’ financial statements (IAS Banks and Finance Database (Mobile)). At HSE you will also obtain the access to the following databases and electronic resources/subscriptions. We also widely use the publicly available data on Russian banking (by the Bank of Russia) and household finance (Russian household longitudinal surveys, e.g. RLMS-HSE).
