The Institute Statistics and Econometrics in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences of Kiel University invites applications for a
Junior Professorship (W 1) in Statistics with a focus on economic prediction
with temporary civil service status for an initial period of three years (first phase) to start at the earliest possible date.
The future job holder shall be responsible for the subject area Statistics with a focus on economic prediction in research and teaching.
The professorship offers courses in the field of statistics, econometrics, and statistical data science in both the Bachelor and Master programs of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. A participation in the planned cross-faculty Bachelor program in Data Science is expected. The ability and willingness to teach in English are required. After an appropriate period of time, courses in German are also desirable.
The research should focus on statistical-econometric prediction with applications in economics, where prediction of new or future observations can apply to the cross-section and/or time dimension. In view of today's typically large data sets, statistical or machine learning methods are generally used for this purpose.
We offer excellent career development opportunities through collaboration in the Interdisciplinary Centre for Statistics at the Institute of Statistics and Econometrics, research cooperation with colleagues from the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences and the Kiel Institute for World Economics, and cross-faculty cooperation within Kiel University, in particular within the Digital Science Centre with its competence pillars Statistical Sciences, Machine Learning, Scientific Computing and Data Science. Further, an engagement in the priority research areas Societal, Environmental, and Cultural Change and Kiel Life Science is desirable. The successful applicant will convincingly demonstrate how they will use these networking opportunities and resources to develop, and successfully advance, their own research agenda.
A doctorate in the field of statistics related to economics or empirical economic research is required. Initial publication successes, international visibility, teaching experience and experience in acquiring third-party funding are an advantage.
Please refer to the recruitment requirements of ยง 64 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein. After successful evaluation of the first phase of the junior professorship it is the aim to extend the temporary civil servant status for another period of three years (second phase). More information can be found at www.berufungen.uni-kiel.de (in German).
Kiel University is striving to increase the number of female scientists in research and teaching and therefore expressly encourages qualified women to apply. Women will be given priority if their aptitude, qualifications and professional performance are of equal value.
Kiel University is committed to the employment of people with disabilities: Applications from severely disabled persons and their equals will be given preferential treatment if they have the equivalent qualifications.
